Making an Application

Futureworks aspires to be recognised as the first choice for students who want top quality, vocational and relevant education which will lead to sustainable employment in the creative industries.

We are looking for the best students to be part of Futureworks and we understand that this will include applicants who may not have the required qualifications, but do have the industry experience and/or passion to succeed. We believe that these applicants will make a significant contribution to our community and play a positive part in the world-class educational experience we aim to give our students.

We are committed to enabling these applicants to study with us and our aim is that by awarding unconditional offers post interview in some exceptional circumstances, they will have the confidence to excel through one of our degree programmes.

We believe that it’s important to meet all prospective students individually to ensure that our course is right for their skills and aspirations and that they have the full picture of what the studying at Futureworks entails. If an application is successful, the applicant will be invited to attend an interview. After the interview, we may identify that an applicant is someone who has the qualities to succeed at Futureworks, and who will gain immensely from their time with us. Giving an unconditional offer demonstrates our belief that an applicant has the necessary qualities to succeed on one of our degree programmes.

We also hope that, in some cases, having an unconditional offer will help to reduce some of the pressure we know students feel when applying for university and taking their exams and they will be able to focus on achieving excellent grades which will help them work with their passion to excel at their chosen field of study and career.

The criteria for receiving an unconditional offer will vary across the degree programmes, as different qualities are needed to succeed within different creative practices. However, all programmes will include a minimum GCSE English/Maths attainment level or equivalent, in addition to an excellent personal statement and reference.

It should be noted that not being made an unconditional offer does not exclude applicants from being given a standard conditional offer at Futureworks and we value these applicants equally.

If you wish just to cancel your application to Futureworks, you can do this by logging into your UCAS track and cancelling Futureworks as a choice. You can only do this if we have not yet sent you an offer. If we have sent you an offer and you wish to cancel your application to us, you can reject the offer on your UCAS track. If you accept your offer and then decide you wish to withdraw your application to us, you will need to call the Admissions department on 0161 214 4602 and ask them to release you from your offer.

If your application is successful we will invite you to attend an interview. We do this so that we can assess your suitability for the course, and also to make sure you’re sure that Futureworks is the right place for you.

Your offer may be made on an unconditional basis, or with conditions attached. You’ll need to meet those conditions in order to start the course. Details of your offer are sent through UCAS, so you will need to check this on your UCAS account when you log in.

If your offer requires you to attain certain grades at A-Level (or equivalent) you’ll need to send in proof of these to our Admissions team.

There will be a deadline attached to your offer and it essential that you reply to your offer before the deadline. Your deadline will be clearly shown in your UCAS account.

If you have applied for more than one course, you should select your preferred course Firm (F) choice. If your Firm choice is conditional, you can select another course as your Insurance (I) choice. You should then mark any other offers you have received as Declined (D).

When you get your results, you should log into your UCAS account to ensure that they have been received by us and that your place has been confirmed.

If your place is not showing as confirmed, then you should contact us and arrange to have your results set to us.

You should also make sure that your contact details are up to date on UCAS in case we need to contact you.

If you didn’t get the results that you had hoped for, then simply call us. We may still be able to fit you in, if not on your chosen course, then maybe on an alternative course.

If we can make you a new offer, we will let you know and make a new offer to you via UCAS. You will then need to reply to your new offer on your UCAS account, but you will only have a few days to accept the new offer.

After all that, you will be sent a letter via your UCAS account shortly after your place is confirmed.

If you want to apply for a course via clearing, you’ll need to talk to us first to discuss your application – we will then ask you to complete your application through UCAS and add the course as a clearing choice via UCAS Track. You should only add the course as a clearing choice if you have already been made a clearing offer by us, otherwise there will be a delay in your application.

Although the “on time” deadline for UCAS has now passed, you can still apply for all Futureworks courses.

We continue to give all applications equal consideration until the next deadline which is 30th June 2024.

It’s best to get your application in as soon as possible, but we would encourage you to take the time to make your application the best it can be!
