A conversation and masterclass with DJ & music producer, Adam Harper (Ghoulish)

Adam Harper started laying down the track of his music career during his tenure as a student at Futureworks. DJ’ing and producing at night whilst completing a Music Production Honours degree by day, Adam, aka Ghoulish, was as productive then as he is today.

Performing and producing an avalanche of killer tracks and sets during 2023 helped raise a mountainous profile for the Manchester-based DJ and producer, resulting in the first Ghoulish EP ‘Weekends Goodwill’, released on Skream’s IFEEL label, and earmarking 2023 as a breakthrough year. Given Adam’s growing popularity on the UKG scene, we invited him back to Futureworks to host a masterclass for students and talk to us about his career.

We always take advantage of opportunities and organised Futureworks Film and TV students to film the event. Captured in conversation with Senior Lecturer Pete Jenkinson, Adam discusses his work as a sound designer, DJ and music producer. He expands on his musical influences, production style and work mentality and reveals his love/hate relationship with social media. From his life as a student at Futureworks to working with Skream, the influential architect of Dubstep, Adam is candidly entertaining and enthusiastic about his music and career.

Following a lively debate with the audience, Adam held a Ghoulish masterclass in music production. Whilst confidently remixing two new tracks, he talks to a rapt audience about the methodology and techniques he uses to create the music currently storming the length and breadth of the UK.

Recorded and filmed by a collaboration of Futureworks students, you can watch both the interview and masterclass below or via our YouTube channel
