If you want to produce and release your music, Futureworks is the perfect environment for you. Not only will you learn the skills, expertise and knowledge needed for a career in the music industry, earning you an honours degree in music production, audio engineering or game and interactive audio, but you can also release your tracks via our in-house label, 1043 Recordings.
Founded in 2011, 1043 Recordings (formally Futureworks Music) is a multi-genre label that exclusively distributes Futureworks’ student, staff and alumni recordings. When you join us, you’ll be invited to get involved with the label, which is driven by students and guided by tutors and staff with decades of industry experience. 1043 Recordings embraces all the elements you’d expect from a record label, including production, live performances, marketing, website development, social media, management, artist events and more. As a student here at Futureworks, you play an active role in the professional process of releasing your music into the international music marketplace to support your development as a recording artist whilst you’re studying and even after you have graduated from Futureworks.
Here’s just a few of the reasons why you should release your music through 1043 Recordings:
You’ll gain valued practical experience
As a student or alumni at Futureworks, you can commercially release your music on the label for free while participating in a working label.
You’ll receive 100% of all royalties
All net revenue is transferred directly to you as artist and performer. Using Royalty-Worx, we generate and email your royalty statements.
Your legal stuff is easy
We only use non-exclusive master deals, which means you retain your publishing rights and royalties for future income.
Your audio is mastered by a master
All your tracks are encoded and prepared for free in our state-of-the-art mastering studio under the watchful eye of Ste Kerry (Stek Mastering).
Your music is synchronised for media
Your music is pitched for ‘media placements’ via the Woodwork Music Agency, giving your songs a chance to come alive in film, TV or video games.
Your music is professionally distributed, globally
Label-Worx, the world’s leading independent digital distributor for indie and electronic music, will distribute your music on all the major digital streaming platforms.
You’ll have plenty of opportunities for live performances and exposure:
Perform at 6UP Live at The Eagle
At the end of every term, 1043 Recordings hosts its 6UP parties to showcase your talent in front of a live audience at the award-winning music venue, The Eagle Inn in Salford.
Perform at the Riverside Live Lounge
Play your music live in our Neve Studio sessions where we’ll film and produce a music video to support your festival submissions, share with agents and promoters and post on social media.
Create singles, Eps and albums
Each year we release compilation albums and EPs featuring your best music and tracks you’ve collaborated on at Futureworks.
Build your music career
1043 Recordings offers you a stable environment to build your career, all while you’re developing your creative and production skills.

Bateleur
Vacant Smiles
This track holds a special place in our heart as it was our first ever commercial label release by Futureworks’ Alum, Stu Williams, back in 2011 and is an emotive self-produced 3 track EP that introduced his engaging song writing, edgy rock vocal and eclectic, but rhythmic diversity.
