The course examines the principles and theories of games design, systems, mechanics, narrative, and gameplay, while equipping you with the knowledge and understanding of professional workflows. You’ll gain an understanding of games design from the creative process to using game engines, such as Unreal Engine.
Our games design students are considered as ‘professionals in training’ and our 3 year degree course forms a solid foundation for workplace best-practice. The second year also supports a specialised module on games industry careers including varied opportunities for networking and attending industry guest lectures.
By your final year you’ll will be ready to embark on a self-directed honours project focused on your chosen career specialism and devise and create a working game demo. Supported by tutors acting in the role of ‘producer’, you’ll put into practice your previous two years of learning, as well as continue to stretch your abilities and understanding as the honours project progresses.
Final projects are tailored so that they are the best possible degree submissions and the backbone of your portfolio. By the time you graduate, you’ll be ready for a creative career in the games industry or in an advantageous position to undertake post-graduate study.
