Our Game Art degree is a practical, skills-based course tailored to meet game industry standards for professional art and asset creation for the games industry.
All course tutors are game industry professionals and they equip students with the knowledge, expertise and skills required to gain worthwhile employment in the industry after graduating Futureworks. The Game Art degree course comprises of a broad variety of lectures, hands-on workshops, tutorial classes, and practical exercises that provide Futureworks students with a well-rounded education in preparation for their desired creative career.
When you join the course, we initially focus on your traditional artistic abilities and cover disciplines such as still life, life drawing and other types of observational art. We include essentials such as proportion, anatomy, and composition and this includes classes, projects, lectures, and field trips to help you develop the non-digital elements of your work.
In tandem with honing your traditional skills we introduce you to working digitally using industry standard hardware and software. You’ll explore and learn 2D concept art and design, working in 3D, digital sculpting and painting, and implementing game engines such as Unreal Engine into your work.
Our BA (Hons) Game Art course features a heavy emphasis on professional workflows, collaborative feedback and foundational knowledge. You’ll cover a wide range of topics, from fundamentals such as drawing, perspective, shape language, colour theory, digital painting and 3D modelling, to more complex subjects such as anatomical sculpting, PBR texturing, game engine integration and transferable skills such as self-promotion, networking, and C.V. writing and preparation.
When you reach your third year you’ll be prepared for the challenge of your honours project. Working closely with tutor’s you’ll define a project that will make the most of the abilities you’ve developed over the previous two years, and you’ll be encouraged to focus on the game industry career and specialisms you hope to pursue after you graduate.
