This degree is a combination of animation and illustration. When we first created the course we consulted with our Industry Advisory Group to help gain professional insights on what the course needs to cover so that students graduate with the correct skills and knowledge for a creative career in animation and illustration. As well as core skills in 2D and 3D animation, the creative industry needs people who can draw… and they seem to be in short supply.
WHY CHOOSE TO TAKE A BA (Hons) Digital Animation with Illustration DEGREE AT FUTUREWORKS?
Initially the course focuses on traditional 2D animation skills because we’ve found that this approach helps produce more rounded and proficient 3D digital animators. The illustration element of is the stand-out aspect of the course when compared with other digital animation degrees, and when animation and illustration are collaboratively intertwined our students enjoy the way they work together to tell visual stories in a playful, fun, creative and exciting way.
When students transition onto digital animation, they use the latest versions of industry standard software, such as Autodesk Maya, together with the hardware and workflows that you would expect to find in real-world animation studios. Not surprising, given that our Tutors are all industry professionals and they either continue to work within the industry or contribute to live projects on a freelance capacity. Our Tutors know that it is essential students understand the way the industry works, its tools and methodologies as soon as students start on the course. Our highly experienced Tutors are also augmented with independent animators, comic book illustrators and other specialist professionals who teach Futureworks’ students specific specialisms and deliver frequent guest lectures.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE ANIMATION INDUSTRY
In their final year, our students focus on their future careers. We help them develop their online portfolio, explore effective marketing, and ensure positive exposure in a predominantly freelance industry. During your time at Futureworks, you’ll have many opportunities to build essential career contacts and we explore ways for exploiting those contacts helping you to find jobs, prepare for interviews and work on interview techniques.
Students who complete our BA (Hons) Digital Animation with Illustration course can expect rewarding careers such as Illustrators, storyboard artists, 2D or 3D animators and many more. You could work freelance, within an animation studio, post-production for film and TV or many other sectors of the creative industry.
