Help us congratulate Rob Baldwin on 10 years at Futureworks by looking back at what he has achieved so far in this Staff Spotlight…
Rob Baldwin is a media composer with over 25 years of experience in the industry. He began his career aged 12 in the 1990s, using an Atari ST computer, a 4-track tape machine and Cubase to create music. In addition to his work as a composer, Robert has also composed music for film and television and has played in industrial rock bands such as Marley’s Chains, Layers, and Chevisance.
An accomplished pianist and guitarist, represented by Sonoton, Cavendish Music, and Funky Junkies music publishers, Rob’s work has been used by major networks such as CNN and RAI TV in Italy. He has a strong background in film-score composition and has brought his unique style and sound to a variety of projects in this field.
Starting at Futureworks in September 2013, and completing his MA with Distinction in Music and Interactive Composition in 2015, Rob quickly made his mark at Futureworks with his unique and energetic teaching style. He took over teaching all year groups composition classes in 2015 on the BA (Hons) Music Production Course, all while successfully buying his first house with his partner.
Over the Past 10 years Rob has accomplished many things here are just a few highlights…
Most recently his music has been featured on Robinson Ekspeditionen and Lazos De Sangre
He has also taught himself C++ and software programming principles and is currently studying advanced mathematics and digital signal processing algorithms to implement into software with the intention of designing new sound-design algorithms.
He has just completed his first 3 pieces of music software, WanjoDrum, a simple sample player/ drum machine, Sacred Trinity Reverb (a reverb VST making use of impulse responses that he gathers with the year 3 Music Production students of Sacred Trinity Church in Salford), and an AMX RMX16 based VST effect. He creates these under the name Supercoiled Samples.
His personal music output can be found on his website, Bandcamp and Spotify.
He also has a large programming portfolio which you can look at, has been Musical Director for a local theatre group for 6 months, playing piano, and to top it all off Rob became a father to Charles Roland Baldwin in 2022.
Rob’s weapons of choice are the piano, synthesiser, guitar, voice, microphone, sampler, objects and things, other assorted studio-based noise machines, oh, and red wine.
We want to celebrate his 10 years at Futureworks and can’t wait to see what else he will achieve in the future. Staff Spotlight: Rob Baldwin
