When you study in the School of Sound & Music at Futureworks, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to perform live. Whether you’re a budding music producer or audio engineer, singer-songwriter, band member or DJ, whatever your musical inclination, we’ll provide live event opportunities that will allow you to express and unleash your talents onto a captive audience.
Managed by our multi-genre music label, 1043 Recordings, they organise and promote regular end-of-term socials at the Eagle Inn in Salford. 1043 Recordings’ live events feature outstanding performances from Futureworks’ staff, students and alums. Covering a satisfyingly eclectic mix of musical genres selected from their diverse catalogue of artists and bands, every social has a sound to suit everyone, and their latest announcement is no exception:
Acoustic singer/songwriter Sam Butterfield is tasked with starting the show. An accomplished guitarist, Sam’s deep but vibrant vocals are reminiscent of Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, and Chris Isaak, making him the perfect opening performance for an evening of diverse talent.
Ska band Madame Claude are described as ‘The Fall meets Desmond Dekker’. Their tongue-in-cheek, hilariously dark lyrics are backdropped by reggae shanks, offset bass lines, and irresistible grooves and rhythms. They’re smashing it on the live circuit and will bounce you onto the dancefloor.
It’s a rare opportunity to experience the underground rap-influenced Malik Issac and friends in Manchester. Hailing from South East London, Malik blends uptempo, bouncy, and heavy beats with psychedelic-inspired harmonies accompanied by relatable and introspective lyricism with distinctive, catchy hooks.
Rocking in on the set list is the Manchester four-piece Derailed, comprising Futureworks’ highly talented Dave Cummins, Craig Burgess, Mike Weaver, and Pete Smith. This is a unique chance to experience four seasoned musicians at the top of their game, collaborating live on stage.
Surfing through genres is JeSuisJoe. 21-year-old singer-songwriter and music producer Joe Savage blends indie, alt-pop, with folk to produce a remarkably fresh sound. Better known for his key role on vocals and guitar in the successful Northwest band, 25th Hour this is the perfect time to catch JeSuisJoe perform solo.
Presented by Futureworks’ students, the Futureworks Christmas Social will be a multi-genre buffet of beats to celebrate the end of term and the start of the holidays. You’re all invited!
