Futureworks Film Festival

On Thursday the 8th of June Futureworks held our annual Film Festival! The event was a massive success, it was brilliant to finally see the finished projects that our students have been putting so much of their time and dedication into.

Students, graduates, family and friends all gathered together in our Student Lounge earlier this month for Futureworks Film Festival!

It was amazing for our students to finally see their films on the big screen. The whole event had such a supportive atmosphere. Everyone in attendance was so appreciative of the work that went into creating such top-quality productions.

After the screening, we held an awards ceremony in which our 3rd Years were presented with trophies acknowledging their fantastic work in several different areas.

Here’s what our Head of School of Film, Television & Media, Richard Hellawell thought of the night:

“Once again, the School of Film held their annual Film Festival in the student lounge at Futureworks.  The Festival showed work for the third and 2nd years from the Post Production, Visual Effects and Independent Filmmaking degrees.

The students showcased extremely high quality, entertaining and often moving films prior to their potential submission to film festivals around the world.  Students and parents had a great time watching their own work on a big screen and appreciating the work of their peers.  The festival was so successful that staff are looking to host next year’s festival in a larger venue in Manchester city centre.

The presentation took place after the film festival in the evening, where third year cohorts came together to celebrate the excellent work of their peers.  Nine awards were given to students for their work for categories such as Best Visual Effects, Best Editing, Best Director and Best Film.

The students and staff had an excellent night receiving awards, making speeches and appreciating the best work produced this year.  Everyone involved thought this was a brilliant way to end the year and we wish all the graduates the best for their exciting new challenges in the future.”

Congratulations and best of luck to our graduates! We will definitely keep you updated with all the fantastic things they will undoubtedly go on to achieve in the future.
