Futureworks Graduation 2022

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of welcoming back not one, but three sets of graduates from the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 to their long awaited Futureworks Graduation Ceremony. It was a wonderful night full of celebration.

We acknowledged the dedication and determination of our students who, despite being dealt a very tough hand mid-way through their studies – managed to pull through and achieve exactly what they came here to do. They’re leaving us, degrees in hand, and stepping into their next chapter.

When the pandemic first hit, Futureworks closed its doors to our students and staff for everyone’s safety. Our staff banded together to transform our way of teaching and move almost everything online. This was no mean feat and they showed amazing commitment to our students in their efforts.

Our students in turn, showed up and worked just as hard – if not harder – to complete their studies. In online classes via Teams, Zoom and Discord, they made sure to be there and displayed massive dedication to their education amidst daily uncertainty and disruption.

Eventually, Futureworks’ doors could be opened once again, and we were so excited to welcome our students back after having stood empty for such a long time. Normal teaching could resume, and a semblance of normality could resume.

Resilience is the first word that springs to mind when we reflect back on the last few years at Futureworks and the unprecedented circumstances that interrupted normal life. A sentiment echoed throughout the night of Graduation in speeches from Heads of School, and Chris Mayo, Principal of Futureworks.

The determination of our students to keep going, despite the difficulties and upheavals brought on by the pandemic – to then make it to graduation, is nothing short of inspiring. We couldn’t be any prouder.

Together we watched graduate show reels documenting the incredible work created by our students. We handed out awards and acknowledged the contributions of our Student Partners. It was such a great feeling to be able to share the talent and hard work of each person with an entire theatre of family and friends supporting them.

“Futureworks’ graduation ceremony was a long time coming, and it did not disappoint! Reconnecting with my old teachers, classmates and friends put a huge smile on my face.” – Kirsten McDowell, BA (Hons) Games Design graduate.

“I had a lovely time at Futureworks graduation ceremony, I was with my family and it was great to meet with my classmates and teachers again. The pandemic detached us from social events for so long and to experience everyone’s hard work on the big screen was incredible.” – Maria Battimelli, BSc (Hons) Audio Engineering & Production graduate

We hope everyone who came along to graduation enjoyed the night. It was a pleasure to welcome you back once more to celebrate your fantastic achievements together.
