Socialising with other students also helps you to find out about extra-curricular projects that you can work on, and gives you an invaluable source of contacts for when you come to do your own projects either as part of your course or as additional work to develop your skills.
Clubs and Societies
Our students have set up a variety of groups including a film society, animation club, tabletop role-playing club & Magic the Gathering club.
There are notice boards around the building where students can post information about new and existing social clubs and events. Students can also advertise their event on the MyCommunity forums on MyFutureworks VLE.
We love to hear your ideas for new clubs and can offer support and advice on how to set these up. If you have an idea for a club or event contact Student Services and we’ll see what we can do to help.
Game Jams
As well as clubs and societies we also hold regular Game Jams. The Game Jams involve students from different Schools within Futureworks coming together to concept, design and create game prototypes over a weekend period. It’s a great opportunity for multiple social groups to network and see what games design, art and development is really like.
The Jams are often themed, meaning that groups that attend or that form through networking have specific goals and outcomes that their game prototype has to aim to encompass. Any work that groups create at the Jams are their own intellectual property. This means that ideas can be taken away from the Jams to be worked on separately by attendees.
Induction and Welcome Fair
The Induction and Welcome Fair is our way of giving you a big welcome to Futureworks and to Manchester. You’ll learn about the facilities, your course, the city you’ll be studying in and student life as a whole; on top of that, we’ll also have stalls packed with information and goodies! You can find more information about this on our induction and enrolment page.
