Foundation in Game Art

This 1 year foundation course is designed to introduce gamers and aspiring artists to the working methods of a professional artist in the games industry.

Being an artist is about saturating yourself with information from all sources, ultimately broadening your point of reference, analysing games, films, paintings, books and music that you love… before you get down to image creation. This course pushes you to develop quickly, and become the artist you want to be.

If you have commitment, artistic ability, passion and bags of enthusiasm for games, you will love this course. It is highly practical, and you spend your time focusing on creativity, workflow and delivery.

Course documentation and tutorials are provided on a weekly basis so you will build your own library of must-have information, including essential techniques in both 2D and 3D art using industry standard software like Maya and Photoshop.

You will develop the skills to enable you to create professional standard digital assets, while learning game specific work flows that run through the industry. The course is run by a highly experienced games artist who is still very active in the industry and who ensures that the course remains relevant in the ever-changing game world.

If you have good artistic abilities and want to take your creativity into the digital realm, then this course is waiting for you. You will be able to adapt your existing skills while learning new ones with a view to entering the games industry.

The final project in this course involves the creation of a digital diorama, which will involve you bringing together all the skills you have learnt on the course in one project. This will be a fantastic showpiece for your digital portfolio and should attract the attention of potential employees. Careers in game art are much sought after and providing you have the necessary creative ability, this course will give you the skills you need to make your first leap into the industry.

Alternatively, you can use the course as a springboard to apply for one of our game degrees. Successful completion of this foundation course guarantees an entrance interview at Futureworks.

Course Fees

The course fee is £1,800.

You can pay in a single payment or by 8 monthly instalments of £250.

Funding for Diploma Courses

Funding a diploma or foundation course at Futureworks is different from funding for degree courses, and students are required to find their own funding – for this reason we offer a number of payment plans via Direct Debit. You might choose to pay for your fees in full at the beginning of the course, or perhaps make yearly payments. You may wish to make manageable monthly instalments, or even a combination of the above.

We recognise that funding your course can be a complex matter, and we would recommend that you discuss your finance options with a member of our Admissions Team on 0161 214 4602 to discuss the options available to you. Alternatively you can email them here:
