AVID MC 101 Media Composer Editing Essentials

Overview

MC101 Editing Essentials is the first step in achieving confidence, creativity, and efficiency with Avid Media Composer, the non-linear film/video editing application used in most movie and television productions. Along with its counterpart, MC110 Effects Essentials, this course provides the foundation for Media Composer User Certification.

This course will get you editing today with a built-in Quick Start guide covering the essential tools you need to start a basic project, assemble the story, and output to web — perfect for producers, journalists and corporate videographers. For those headed toward a career in post production, the second half of the course builds on the Quick Start to offer complete, foundational training in the craft of professional editing for news and documentary, commercial spots, and scripted narrative films.

Learn by doing with real-world projects. Start with the basics of 3-point editing and how to construct a scene, then move on to reworking a scene and trimming dialogue for maximum emotional impact. Add to that the tools and techniques to mix music and sound effects, create titles and transitions, and deliver the program to specification. You will also learn critical skills needed to work as an assistant editor, including how to sync picture and sound from different sources, organize a project, manage media and metadata, and more.

Overview

This course is for video editors who understand the basics of the editing tools in Media Composer and are ready to move ahead and learn the fundamentals of creating effects within Avid Media Composer 6, the non-linear film/video editing application used in most movie and television productions.

This course provides a solid foundation in Media Composer audio and video effects capabilities and, in conjunction with MC101 Editing Essentials course, will prepare you for Avid’s User Level certification in Media Composer 6.

You will be taken through the basic effects-building interface; then, using a real-world, hands-on approach, you’ll learn fundamental audio adjustments and effects, multilayered video compositing, tracking, stabilization, various retiming methods, and basic color-grading techniques.

This course is a crucial step in mastering Avid Media Composer, the standard editing system used by professionals in the film and television industries.

Media Composer Professional Picture and Sound Editing will give you the skills and in-depth, under-the-hood knowledge you need to distinguish yourself as a true editing professional and go for the high-profile jobs you want.

With the step-by-step guidance in this course, you'll learn the skills you need to work on big-budget productions: media management (become the media management guru others look to for expert advice), advanced picture editing (learn precision cutting techniques and how to master Script Integration for long-form projects), and advanced sound editing (learn to impress your producer by creating great audio mixes). Along with its counterpart, Media Composer Professional Picture and Sound Editing, this course provides the foundation for Media Composer Professional Certification through an Avid Learning Partner.

In this thorough course, you'll go far beyond the basics and learn how to apply, design, and build your own effects; how to make full use of all of Media Composer's effects nesting techniques; how to composite various elements using different types of keys; and how to animate effects using keyframes and the motion tracker.
