FILMMAKING FOR FIELDWORK (F4F)

In July 2018 the 10th Filmmaking for Fieldwork (F4F) Summer School will take place at Futureworks. We will also be offering the Intermediate F4F and Advanced F4F film editing courses, which run parallel to the Summer School.

Booking

A booking form can be downloaded from here. Please return the form to f4f@futureworks.ac.uk, or by post to F4F, Futureworks, Riverside, Manchester M3 5FS. A minimum deposit of £400 will be required to secure your space on the course however the full course fees can also be paid at this time if you wish. Any outstanding balance will be required no later than 60 days prior to the start of the course.

Filmmaking for Fieldwork Summer School

2nd to 12th July 2018

Open to all applicants with an interest in using filmmaking for social science research or documentary film production, this 11-day long course is an intensive hands-on introduction to professional documentary and ethnographic filmmaking workflows.

The course focuses on camera, sound recording and editing techniques and our unique research methodology using filmmaking to explore and represent your subject. No previous filmmaking experience is necessary.

Intermediate F4F

2nd to 12th July 2018

  • Standard Fee – £1395

Aimed at previous participants of our F4F Summer School and others with a developed project that includes filmed material and an intended output, the course features 6 days of individual, guided assistance using participants’ own filmed material, at any stage in post-production from pre-edit to fine cut.

The programme includes a refresher class on F4F methodologies, workshops on editing workflows media management and advanced editing techniques, collective screenings and intensive feedback. Each participant will be allocated one of our edit suites, or students can bring their own laptop to use if they wish.

Advanced F4F

2nd to 12th July 2018

  • Standard Fee – £1395

Developed for previous participants of our F4F Summer School and Intermediate course and others with a developed project that is near completion, this course entails 6 days of guidance and hands-on advanced editing, colour grading, sound mixing, titling, exporting and distribution advice from the F4F tutors, using participants’ nearly finished projects in order to bring them to completion.

The course includes a refresher class on F4F methodologies, workshops on editing workflows, media management and advanced editing techniques, collective screenings and intensive feedback. Each participant will be allocated one of our edit suites, or students can bring their own laptop to use if they wish.

The Intermediate and Advanced courses are particularly suitable for research professionals and we can support projects recorded on any format that make use of the Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro (7 or X) or Adobe Premiere Pro (CS6, CC2017 etc) packages.
